Howard Carter was a British archeologist, who was fascinated by Egypt from a young age. Though he loved the many mysteries of Egypt, he did not believe that he could ever find the money to travel there. Despite his passion for Egypt, Howard Carter became a painter of pet portraits, like his father. However, things began to change when, in 1891, the Egyptian Exploration Fund offered him a job doing paintings of their discoveries in Egypt. He spent the next year tracing and coloring images found in the tombs. That was where he discovered archeology and began his journey as an archeologist. By 1899 Carter was still drawing the tombs, but he had also been appointed inspector of antiques for upper Egypt. This job included overseeing the excavation and preservation of ancient discoveries. Between 1902 and 1904, with the help of his wealthy friend Theodore Davis, he discovered two more royal tombs. Unfortunately, they had already been found by tomb robbers. All these events led up to his biggest success, the discovery of King Tutankhamun's tomb, funded by Lord Carnarvon.
