King Tutankhamun was born in 1343 BC in Amarna, Egypt, the capital during his father's reign. When King Tut became pharaoh in the year 1334 BC, he was only nine years old. He also married his half-sister Ankhesenpaaten in the same year. At age twelve he changed his original name, Tutankhaten, which translates to "the living image of Aten", to Tutankhamun, which means "living image of Amun". The cause for this change was pressure from the people of Egypt, who still worshiped the god Amun, although King Tut's father had forced them to worship the god Aten. During King Tutankhamun's nine years as pharaoh, there were military campaigns in Nubia and Syria. King Tut is thought to have played a part in these campaigns. An image in his tomb depicts him riding a chariot, although there is no other evidence to support this theory. King Tut died in 1325 BC, before even reaching his twentieth birthday. The cause of his death is still unknown.
